Social media, especially Twitter, will continue to be one of the quickest ways for subject matter experts (SMEs) to reach the media ♀️
The way social media is being used is constantly evolving – even in 2023.
Twitter.com is the 9th most visited website globally. Twitter’s user count is expected to grow upwards of 335 million in 2023. 54% of Twitter’s audience are more likely to purchase new products (https://blog.hootsuite.com/twitter-statistics/). Despite Elon’s best efforts!
Twitter can also be used as a platform for reaching out to journalists – we spend a lot of time conversing with journalists on Twitter and the media use hashtags such as #journorequest to reach spokespeople and experts for stories they’re writing.
Equally using Twitter to release breaking news on your brand is one of the fastest ways to get out timely news. As with all social platforms it’s important to be aware of how things can be taken out of context, the world of trolling and also ideas around hate speech and freedom of speech. It’s important to consider all outcomes when you’re releasing information about your brand – could there be any negative reactions? And plan accordingly.
One of the things we love about Twitter is being able to engage directly with journalists that are writing about topics or areas that directly link to our clients. By taking part in debate, highlighting our client’s expertise and showing what we have to offer, Twitter offers another platform for us to connect with our key targets.
