“Position your brand – what do you offer that sets you apart?”

This may seem like an obvious point but you’d be surprised how many brands are unsure of what sets them apart from the competition.  You know why you LOVE your brand, but why do your customers?  Do you know what makes your business/product/brand unique?  Your USP is the thing that you should be highlighting at every opportunity – this could be the fact that you’re the sole provider of one product, or it could be that you offer the same product or service as others, but the way you offer it is different.  

Sharing your USP through marketing or PR will be the cornerstone of your marketing strategy.  Spend time thinking about how you talk about your USP, ensuring you’re able to get the point across quickly and concisely.  

Journalists want to share unique and interesting products or information with their readers, they want to catch the eye and hook viewers in.  Your USP should help them to do this, but the way your brand or product is presented will also make an impact.  Spending time on your website, and ensuring that you have high res, well shot, photography will make all the difference when it comes to pitching.
